New openings

We were fortunate enough to bless a few new buildings on campus this year, including recreation facilities and some pretty flash accommodation.

Recreation Centre and Sports Courts find new homes

The Recreation Centre found a fancy new home at 70 Stanley St in January this year.  The purpose-built fit out features weight and cardio equipment, a low impact fitness space, group fitness studio, spin studio, mind body studio and brand new bathrooms.

The Sports Centre followed suit in September, opening up courts on Wynyard St behind OGGB. UNIM8S social sports and Interfaculty sports now have a functional, multi-purpose space to compete in. Game on!

New Hyundai Marine Sports Centre opens in Okahu Bay

If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to sail, paddle in waka ama or get involved in some stand up paddle boarding, then the new home to the Uni’s watersports clubs and programmes is the place to be.

Halls for all open in 2020

The start of the year saw the official opening of two new accommodation halls – Te Tirohanga o te Tōangaroa and Waipārūrū Hall.

Besides providing a whopping 1,274 extra beds for students on campus, the new residents also got to enjoy co-living set-ups, modern facilities, games and music rooms, and tonnes of shared space that fit a range of uses, like study, socialising, Netflix hangs, catch-ups and more.

On-campus life has never been flasher than it is right now thanks to these purpose built homes away from home.
